L’Abribus: A Bus Shelter, Two Strangers, One Cause

A stressed showbiz star and a quiet beekeeper, stuck waiting together under a bus shelter. From that unlikely pairing, Florence Foresti and Philippe Elno built a bittersweet comedy about loneliness and the difficulty of talking to one another. The Foundation staged it in Hong Kong on 18, 19 and 20 April 2024, with Alma Brami and Jean-Baptiste Peloux on stage.

Why this play

« I was moved by the encounter between these two characters, who are so different yet share a kind of loneliness, » explains Agnès Seelinger, who directed the production. « This theme of communication difficulties runs through much of my work. »

Both actors found personal echoes in their roles. Alma Brami described the part as a challenge that pushed her out of her comfort zone. Jean-Baptiste Peloux connected with his character’s serenity and love of nature, a quality he found striking in a city as fast-paced as Hong Kong.

Directed free of charge, for PSE

The Foundation staged the play without remuneration, with one objective: to raise as much as possible for Pour un Sourire d’Enfant. All profits were donated to the association, which helps thousands of Cambodian children escape poverty through education and vocational training.

A project that reached into the classroom

The production also became an educational partnership with the French International School of Hong Kong. Students created the play’s posters, and Agnès Seelinger worked with older pupils on the behind-the-scenes realities of theatre production, helping them prepare for their oral examinations.
