Wait! The Musical: Direction by the Foundation

An endless waiting room on the banks of the Styx, six souls with unfinished business, and seventy-two hours to relive a single moment of their lives. Wait!, an original French musical written and directed by Nasthasia Faure, played at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre in December 2025. Agnès Seelinger co-directed the actors alongside Stéphane Lam.

The show

Produced by N.A.B. MUSICHK, Wait! gathers an unlikely group in a place between life and whatever follows it: a poet guillotined during the French Revolution, a businessman with compromised dealings, a Hong Kong fighter who never got his chance, a teenager whose life was cut short, and a singer whose death conceals a scandal. At the centre stands Emmeline, waiting nearly nine years for a judgment that never comes, until an unexpected offer changes everything. Guided by Chantal and overseen by Hades and Zeus, the group is given seventy-two hours, on one condition: they must first work out what binds their fates together.

The Foundation's contribution

Unlike our own productions, the Foundation did not produce Wait!. Agnès Seelinger was brought in as co-stage director, working with the performers on character, delivery and presence. It is a different kind of contribution: our experience placed at the service of a project we did not originate, on a scale that few French-language productions in Hong Kong attempt.

A full-scale production

Wait! ran with original music and choreography, a full design team, and music rights secured from Éditions Orlando for the Dalida repertoire and from Warner Music for a Hyphen Hyphen track. The French Consulate supported the production through the STAFE grant. Four performances were scheduled at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre from 4 to 6 December 2025, and the reception was strong enough that further dates were added.

Why this matters to us

Supporting ambitious French-language work in Hong Kong is part of what the Foundation set out to do. Wait! was written here, staged here, and performed by artists based here, which is precisely the kind of project a cultural bridge is supposed to carry.
