Tout Baigne ! : The Cult French Comedy Returns to Hong Kong

On 26, 27 and 28 November 2026 at 8 pm, the Seelinger Arts Foundation presents a new production of Tout Baigne !, directed by Agnès Seelinger. A fast-paced French comedy for the whole family, it promises three riotous evenings of impending disaster, colourful characters and situations that spiral further out of control with every scene.

A Storm, a Rising Flood and a Baby on the Way

In a country house, Yann-Joël and Marine are preparing to welcome their first child. Outside, the weather is taking a dramatic turn and the water level is rising dangerously. Before long, the couple find themselves trapped with an unlikely group of companions:

  • Francis, an overfamiliar camper
  • Huguette, a particularly domineering volunteer firefighter
  • Jacques, her neurotic partner
  • Boulaouane, the village’s fearful shopkeeper

As the situation becomes critical, the group sets itself one crucial mission: hide the seriousness of the crisis from Marine and prevent her from going into premature labour. Lies, blunders and chain reactions follow one another, building steadily towards the play’s climax.

Laughter With a Bite

Beneath its irresistible situational comedy, Tout Baigne ! also exposes the shortcomings of each character. As the crisis escalates, masks begin to slip, revealing selfishness, cowardice and raw survival instinct. Carried by a cast of eccentric characters and a relentless pace, the play keeps audiences on the edge of their seats while offering a sharp look at human nature.

A French Stage Classic

Written by Pascal Elbé, Éric Laborie, Roland Marchisio, Bob Martet, Marie-Isabelle Massot and Aude Thirion, Tout Baigne ! premiered at the Théâtre Grévin in Paris in 1994. It became a popular success, with more than 600 performances on Parisian stages, before being adapted for the cinema in 1999.

A Journey of Nearly Thirty Years

For Agnès Seelinger, this production is a return to a play she knows well. She first directed it at the Alliance Française in Singapore in 1996, then at the French International School in Hong Kong in 2007. Bringing it back to Hong Kong in 2026 continues an artistic and human journey that began nearly thirty years ago.

An Inclusive, Intergenerational Experience

Through this production, the Seelinger Arts Foundation aims to offer Hong Kong audiences an inclusive, accessible and intergenerational cultural experience, in line with its mission to promote the performing arts and foster cultural exchange between France and Hong Kong.

The production is presented as part of an educational and cultural partnership with the French International School and is intended for its community. It is also supported by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao through the STAFE programme, which supports French community organisations abroad.
